In many countries around the world, the phrase “classical music” is used to celebrate the aesthetics and musical traditions that define the cultures of its individuals and local communities. In the United States, however, this phrase comes with a tradition of Euro-centricity that fails to acknowledge the unique contributions made by historically marginalized communities to the world of “classical" musics.
