    The Business of Being a Composer: How can composers best cultivate relationships with performers and presenters?

    SEMINAR: Loki Karuna - Dismantling the narratives of Euro-centricity
    1:30-3:00pm, Kaufman Dance Studio
    In many countries around the world, the phrase “classical music” is used to celebrate the aesthetics and musical traditions that define the cultures of its individuals and local communities. In the United States, however, this phrase comes with a tradition of Euro-centricity that fails to acknowledge the unique contributions made by historically marginalized communities to the world of “classical" musics. In this session, Loki Karuna will lead a collaborative improvisation that showcases what many of today’s music creators are exploring toward decolonizing the compositional process.

    WORKSHOP: Mark Dover - Improvisation for Classical Musicians
    1:30-3:00pm, Kaufman Dance Studio
    As classical musicians, the hardest aspect to approaching improvisation is taking that first step off the page when you just don’t know what to play. This workshop seeks to undo that mental block we all initially have through simple group exercises, touching on concepts like modes, pentatonics and groove.

    WORKSHOP: Jessica Phillips - Finding your IVII (Identity, Vision, Intention, and Impact)
